Let’s improve access to mental health support for children and young people, together

access to mental health

Mayden is hosting a Digital Showcase on March 23rd 2023 with the aim to create a space for those working in children and young people’s mental health (CYPMH) to find out more about the digital solutions available to support their service.

Research demonstrates that over half of all mental health issues start before the age of 14, with 75% starting by 24 years of age. Therefore, it’s vital that providers of CYPMH services can offer children and young people early access to mental health support, when it’s needed. If we can treat young people early and effectively, it improves their wellbeing at that point in time and reduces the risk of them going on to develop longer term mental health conditions.

There are opportunities for digital technology to support those with mental health needs at every step in their journey. We believe that digital options, whether they are patient facing apps, digital therapy platforms or clinical software – deliver the most value when they work together to support continuity and quality of care.

What are some of the benefits to adopting digital options along the care pathway?

  1. Offering access to information and resources for those who want to understand and manage their mental and emotional wellbeing.
  2. Providing choice to young people who prefer digital options or want to use them while waiting for face to face therapy.
  3. Helping to reduce waiting times by offering immediate access to treatment to young people, where appropriate.
  4. Enabling therapists to monitor and evaluate progress and use the data to inform their sessions with the child or young person.

Northpoint Wellbeing, a charitable provider of therapeutic services, has found that combining digital and in-person therapy is effective in meeting the needs of young people and their families.

”Having a digital CBT-based programme for young people with anxiety felt such a helpful additional aspect to our service model. It’s now very much an integrated part of our offer. They can download the app to any device so it feels very accessible. It gives more choice for those young people who prefer a digital way of working. Plus, they can access the programme at any point that suits them.”

The aim of Mayden’s Digital Showcase is to inform CYPMH services on what is safe, effective and appropriate to use in services for children and young people – and to help address the challenges services are facing right now.

We are committed to working in collaboration with other technology providers to ensure that patient data flow supports the best experience for therapists and their patients. Providers of NHS community health services are already adopting a wide range of digital offers that can help children and young people to understand and manage their mental health issues, as well as to get help and for referral to specialist services.

Mayden works with digital partners to improve CYP access to mental health care:

Digital solutions can be used at various points of the care pathway to improve access to mental health care – while children and young people are waiting for an initial assessment, as support during treatment, or to maintain wellbeing after treatment. We’re delighted that at our Digital Showcase, Helen McGlinchey will speak about Northpoint’s experience of integrating digital therapy options into their care pathway.

There will be opportunities to meet a range of technology suppliers and hear from:
